Be Prepared Before You Call
You might have a small problem that is easy to fix so save yourself some cash and check out these things. Whether big or small they will save you time and money and allow us to better help you.
- Check Your Breaker. Often after thunderstorms and power surges set breakers off. If you are afraid you might have lightening damage call ASAP so that we may help you file an insurance claim.
- Check your Air Filter. Is it dirty? Dirty filters restrict airflow and can cause a lot of trouble. Sometimes if your system is blowing warmer than usual air it can be because of this.
- Is it frozen? There are two pipes that connect your outdoor unit to your home. One is aprox. 2” wide and often covered with a black foam sleeve. The other is less than an inch wide. If the larger one feels colder than a coke can or has visible ice on it, then your coil might be frozen. Until that ice melts, we cannot do anything. Turn off your system immediately. It takes 3-4 hours to melt most iced coils.
- Write Down the Symptoms. Have you heard any noises? What do they sound like and where are they coming from? Is air blowing out of the vents? Is it cold or hot?
- Don’t Close Off Vents. That backs up the airflow and causes trouble.
- Check Your Air Return. Curtains and furniture close to your air return create the same affect as a dirty air filter.
- Heater Not Working? If you have a gas furnace, check to see if your pilot light is lit.
- Is Your Light Switch On? Ever see a light switch in your attic that you didn’t know what it turned on? Well it turns on your furnace/heater/blower. If you have had another contractor in your attic or a relative unfamiliar with your light switches they might have turned off your furnace when looking for the attic light.
- Weather Sneak Up on You? We have all at some time forgotten to switch our thermostats on to heat or back on to A/C once the perfect spring weather passes. Check to make sure it’s where you to switch our thermostats on to heat or back on to air conditioning once the perfect spring weather passes. Check to make sure it’s where you want it.
- Bought a New Furnace Lately? They have a safety lockout feature that is activated by power surges. Turning off your thermostat (Both switches on off.) for a couple minutes resets the safety lockout.
